Santonio Holmes Suspended 4 Games
The NFL has suspended newly acquired New york Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes for four games. The Jets were aware that the suspension was coming and that obviously factored into the price they paid (5th round draft pick). Holmes, who had 79 catches and 1,248 receiving yards last season has had a lot of negative publicity recently. Rich Cimini recapped a lot of it in the Daily News today.
Holmes, 26, was cited for marijuana possession in 2008, resulting in a one-game paid suspension by the Steelers. That was strike one, according to the league policy. To land the suspension, he either tested positive or missed a drug test.
Holmes didn’t say what led to the suspension. He said he’s being “accountable for what happened and I’m ready to move forward.” But he didn’t sound accountable when he said, “Sometimes you have no control over things that happen.”
The former first-round pick also refused to take responsibility for two recent controversial remarks on his Twitter page. He told a critical fan to “kill urself” and he made a marijuana reference by tweeting, “wake n bake” – slang for getting up in the morning and smoking pot.
Rex Ryan and the coaching staff will have his hands full managing Holmes and keeping him on the right path. There is no questioning Holmes talent though as the video below shows.
