Super Agent Alvin Keels; Leon Will Not Sign Tender
The New York Jets have begun their optional off-season workouts. They are optional in a way that is totally not optional. The Jets expect all of their players to be there. Unfortunately Leon Washington is not present. Super Agent Alvin Keels had this to say on twitter:
Leon Washington will not sign his tender at this time. He will continue to rehab while weighing his options as a restricted free agent.
Rehab is going great for LW. He is expected to be cleared to do running drills in the next 10-14 days and will be 100% healthy b4 camp!
Leon Washington is a restricted free agent and he received a 1.759 million dollar tender offer from the Jets. That means another team is free to sign him but they would owe the Jets a 2nd round pick in return. Under Keels guidance, Leon Washington went into last year without a new contract. He played out his rookie deal and got hurt, costing himself a lot of money. Now we have no doubt that Leon is working hard and will be ready for the season. It would be nice if Super Agent Alvin Keels just handled matters quietly this time around.
Leon is a huge fan favorite so Jets fans hope this situation gets resolved soon. You can leave your comments here in the Leon Washington thread from the Jets Nation forum.
