When the Jets played the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game the writing was on the wall. CB Lito Sheppard had been demoted and lost his starting position. After some injuries to other players, Dwight Lowery spent the day getting picked on by Peyton Manning. That showed how far Lito had fallen in the eyes of the coaching staff.
The announcement that Lito had been released came as no surprise. He was acquired one year earlier in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles and he never played at the level the Jets had hoped he would.
The new NFL year begins on March 5th and one of the Jets priorities is a #2 CB to play opposite Pro-Bowler Darrelle Revis.
