The New York Jets spent the week focusing on how to stop the wildcat offense. In their previous meeting against the Miami Dolphins they were burned by the Dolphins offense. They worked hard and were determined to shut it down.
The results for the Jets defense today? They were pretty good. The Jets only allowed 104 yards of total offense (52 passing and 52 rushing). The Miami running game averaged 2.3 yards per carry and the Jets added 6 sacks.
Yet the Jets lost the game.
Two touchdowns by Ted Ginn Jr. on kickoff returns and another touchdown by Jason Taylor after a Shonne Greene fumble and it was just too much to overcome. Looks like the Jets head into the bye week with a few new items to practice. They entered the game 2nd in the NFL on kickoff yardage allowed. They left the game in much worse shape.
4 wins, 4 losses going into the bye week. Not a terrible record for a new coach with a rookie quarterback. Not a terrible record for a team that lost Leon Washington and Kris Jenkins to season ending injuries. Except this team likes to talk a lot. They like to tell everyone how good they are. The Miami Dolphins are good at serving up humble pie for Rex Ryan. Early indications are that as much as Rex likes pie, humble is his least favorite.
