NY Jets Move Forward, Beat Patriots 16-9
The New York Jets are cocky. The New York Jets are talking too much, their coach shouldn’t say anything about not kissing Bill Belichick’s rings. The players are “chirping” on twitter and they shouldn’t do that. These are the things that the main stream media said over and over again.
Apparently though Rex Ryan is okay with his players being confident. Rex Ryan is okay with the bar setting very high. Rex talked about the Super Bowl in his first press conference. As a long time NY Jets season ticket holder, I have to say this is refreshing. The time for excuses and three year plans is over. The Jets are being judged on what they do on the field.
Today they received high marks by beating the New England Patriots in the Meadowlands. The stadium was packed and loud as Rex’s Jets got the job done. On defense Gang Green still has not given up a touchdown. Today they held the Patriots to 9 points, one field goal the result of great field position after a Jets fumble on offense. Tom Brady was held to a completion percentage under 50% and threw an interception.
This Jets defense is for real. I have never felt confident in the Jets defense. Ever. Brady got the ball back late in the game, the same old Jets mentality says the Jets are going to lose. It wasn’t like that today. The fans believed the Jets were going to win. It has only been two weeks but Rex is reversing a losing mentality.
The offense was tentative in the first half. They seemed afraid to make mistakes and as a result they struggled. Whatever was said at halftime worked though as Mark Sanchez led the Jets on a touchdown drive to open the 2nd half. Overall on the day Sanchez was 14/22 for 163 yards and threw a touchdown to Dustin Keller. His passer rating was a very unrookie like 101.1. The team had a balanced attack and ran for 117 yards.
Yes, anything can happen. 2 and 0 only guarantees a 2 and 14 record. There is a lot of football left to be played. The early results are good though, this team talks big but more importantly they play big. I can’t remember ever seeing Tom Brady so confused when he was at the line of scrimmage (multiple delay of game penalties).
It took awhile for the fans to leave today. Not sure I can even remember wanting to stay in the stadium after the game ended. Belichick had left, the Patriots and Jets were in their locker rooms and the fans still stayed and cheered. A nice first few steps on Rex’s watch. Bring on the Titans.
