Rex’s Jets Top Texans 24-7
The Rex Ryan era of New York Jets football is off to a good start. The NY Jets beat the Houston Texans by a score of 24 to 7. Rex’s defense? They didn’t give up any points. They played as advertised; physical, smart and aggressive. They had two sacks an interception and seemed to knock Texan’s quarterback down on just about every play. The did everything well on defense and it was a total team effort. Props to Vernon Gholston for stepping up and making some big plays.
Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez didn’t look like a rookie for most of the day. He did throw one pass late in the game that he later said, “he wished he could have back” as it was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. On 3rd down, Sanchez played like a veteran. Overall on the day Mark Sanchez was 18/31 with 272 yards passing (1 TD, 1 Int).
The Jets receivers played well with Jerricho Cotchery, Chansi Stuckey and Dustin Keller (TE) all have very good games. The ground game was non-existent in the first half but they opened it up in the second half as Thomas Jones and Leon Washington combined for 35 carries and 167 yards.
Jets fans are talking about game balls in our forums. Who would you give the game ball to? Next up is the home opener on 9/20/09 against the New England Patriots. The Jets are going to exhale, smile and enjoy this victory today. They deserve it.
