Jets Top Eagles 38 – 27

The New York Jets ended the preseaon on a good note by beating the Philadelphia Eagles 38 to 27.  The Eagles starters did not play, the Jets starters played one series.  For the Jets the defensive starters gave up a touchdown and committed many penalties on one drive (Shepard, Revis, Scott).  Good news though, Mark Sanchez was perfect going 5 for 5 with a touchdown.

The real story of the day, other than Michael Vick seeing extensive action was Danny Woodhead.  He ran for 158 yards on 18 carries and scored two touchdowns.  The former Division II stand out missed all of last season after getting injured early in camp.  He is a nice story but faces an uphill battle with three running backs ahead of him on the depth chart.

Other notes:

  • Kellen Clemens – there are some rumblings that he has an elbow injury. Hopefully that is true because his play right now isn’t good (another Interception)
  • David Clowney – yet another impressive night (2 – 103 yards – 1 td)
  • Wallace Wright was already in good shape for his roster spot because of his special teams play.  He also sent the staff a nice reminder of what he could do by hauling in a td reception
  • The Jets defense had another 7 sacks, impressive
  • Vernon Gholston, “isn’t there yet”.  He played almost the whole game and did have a sack.  He is sticking to blocks and although he is playing hard the rookie linebacker from Rutgers, Westerman, is playing at a higher level right now
  • The Jets are going to miss Calvin Pace as he serves his 4 game suspension to start the season
  • The same goes for Shaun Ellis who will miss the first game due to a suspension
  • The Jets need to watch the penalties. Way too many false starts, personal fouls and pass interference calls against them this year.  Concentration is critical and they need to find the balance as they turn up the aggressiveness
