Newsday: Jets Considering Marshall Trade
The Brandon Marshall rumor mill lives on. Newsday has an article today saying that the Jets are considering trading for the disgruntled wide receiver.
The Jets are seriously exploring the possibility of trading for Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall, according to a league source familiar with the Jets’ situation.
Marshall, who was suspended Friday by the Broncos for conduct detrimental to the team, is one of the most talented but troubled receivers in the game. He has expressed a desire for a new contract through much of the offseason and preseason and also has asked to be traded.
The Jets might say they are happy with Chansi Stuckey and David Clowney as the # 2 and # 3 receivers behind Jerricho Cotchery. But they are thin at the position. One injury would mean that Brad Smith and Wallace Wright were going to be counted on heavily. Not sure how the Jets could be anything other than concerned about that possibility.
If Marshall is traded, he almost certainly would be given a new contract. He is due to make $2.2 million this season.
