Jets Waive Three

The New York Jets have waived linebacker Craig Koebel, safety Nate Ness, quarterback Chris Pizzotti and wide receiver Huey Whittaker. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Kobel (6’2″, 265) was signed by the Jets on June 9. In 2008 he played with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles on Jan. 23, 2007, and released on Aug. 28. Kobel also played for Cologne in NFL Europe in 2007 and the AFL’s Utah Blaze in 2006.
Ness (6’1″, 190) signed with the Jets on Aug. 19. He was signed by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent on May 1, then was waived on July 15. In 25 games (19 starts) during two seasons at the University of Arizona, Ness totaled 107 tackles, seven interceptions for 166 yards in returns and two fumble recoveries.
Pizzotti (6’5″, 225) was re-signed by the Jets on Aug. 21. He originally signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent May 1 and was waived Aug. 15. He was a two-time All-Ivy League QB from Harvard who finished his collegiate career with 5,675 yards passing, 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Whittaker (6’2″, 220), who re-signed with the Jets on Aug. 16 after he was waived Aug. 11, originally signed with the team on Jan. 23. He first signed with Pittsburgh in 2004 as an undrafted free agent, then, after being released by the Steelers, spent the 2004 season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. He signed and was released by Jacksonville in 2005, then spent the summer with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe.
Whittaker has spent parts of the last three seasons with Tampa and Utah in the Arena Football League, logging 126 receptions for 1,541 yards and 32 touchdowns.
