Although NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell seemingly has shot down talk of a Super Bowl being played on foreign soil, the Telegraph asserts that the league championship game could be played in London as early as 2014.
Per the report, it’s “expected” that an announcement will be made “within the next 12 months.”
The Telegraph acknowledges Goodell’s position on the matter, but claims that the Commissioner’s pooh-poohing is merely a ploy “to persuade the league’s franchise owners that any such move would not be rushed.”
The locations for the next three Super Bowls already have been determined. In 2010, the game will be played in Miami. The next year, it lands in Dallas. In 2012, Indianapolis will host the game.
Later this month, the 2013 Super Bowl will be awarded to Miami, New Orleans, or Phoenix.
