On the Jets trading up to draft him…
I just believe they believed in my potential and my talent to trade up to get me. I’m just going to work my hardest and my best to satisfy the pick and help the team win.
On his initial meeting with the Jets…
It was pretty cool. Actually, they were the only team to come and work me out at the University of Iowa, so I knew they were pretty interested. I’m just excited right now that they picked me.
On when the meeting took place…
That was the day after my pro day [March 25].
On if he visited the Jets’ training facility in Florham Park…
No, that was my only workout with the Jets.
On other teams he worked out with…
Just them.
On playing close to home…
I’m very excited. It gives my family a chance to come to the games and to just have a home-base crowd, so I’m very excited.
On his best attributes as a running back…
I think I can do a lot of things, but most of all I think I’m good between the tackles and can get that tough yardage. I’m just going to move the chains.
On his familiarity with the Jets’ RB situation…
Yeah, I’m aware of that. I watch a lot of ESPN and SportsCenter. I heard Thomas Jones was renegotiating his contract. I mean, that is what it is, I’m not really worried about that. I’m just happy to be a Jet.
On what being drafted by the Jets means to him…
It means a lot. It feels great. Never give up on your dreams, because everything is possible. With a little hard work and dedication, you can get anywhere you want to be.
On if playing for Kirk Ferentz has helped him prepare a little better…
Absolutely. He’s a great coach. He teaches discipline, if anything, first, then just doing the right thing and being responsible. That has helped me a lot in my career.
On his agent…
Sean Howard. He is based out of San Francisco.
On who called him from the Jets…
I don’t even remember. I’m trying to get all of my emotions together. Everything is happening so fast.
On where he is located at the moment…
I’m in my home in New Jersey, town of Sicklerville.
On what it feels like for the Jets to give up draft picks to select him…
They obviously believe in me. I’m going to put my all into working hard and doing what I can to live up to that pick.
On thoughts of becoming a teammate of Mark Sanchez…
He’s a great quarterback. To me, I thought he was the No. 1 quarterback and the best quarterback in this draft. He’s great at the position and does all the right things. I look forward to teaming up with him.
On what NFL team he rooted for growing up…
Since we are so close to Philadelphia, about 25 minutes away, I’ve been a big Eagles fan. I really didn’t have a big team, so now it’s the Jets.
