Jets Throw Back And Often
The Jets wore their throw back NY Titan uniforms today. More importantly they put on a show with the passing game and beat the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 56 – 35. Brett Favre threw six touchdown passes. Laveranues Coles (3), Jerricho Cotchery (2) and Dustin Keller (1) were the recipients. Favre had never thrown for six TDs in one game and tied a Jets record (Joe Namath).
The Jets defense was effective in terms of stopping the run and sacking the quarterback. The held the Cardinals to 42 yards rushing and a 2.8 yard per carry average. They sacked Kurt Warner 5 times and forced 4 Warner fumbles (5 in total).
The defense continues to leave a lot to be desired in pass coverage. Darrelle Revis jumped an early Warner pass and took his interception the distance for a touchdown. Overall though, the Jets coverage is a problem. After jumping out to a big lead, they allowed the Cardinals to make it interesting.
As the Jets head into the bye week with a record of 2 and 2, they have an opportunity to fix what isn’t working (pass defense) and get healthy (Favre’s ankle, David Clowney, Justin Miller and Mike Nugent are all nursing injuries).
