Week 6 Report Card
Eagles-16 Jets-9
By Joe Grinwis
Quarterback – F
Pennington – 11-21, 128 yards, INT
Another bad performance from Chad Pennington. His interception was a horribly under thrown lame duck and for the second straight week Pennington’s famous completion percentage was nowhere to be found.
Running Back – A-
Jones – 24 carries, 130 yards
Q. How can you fault a guy who ran for 5.4 yards per carry? A. You can’t. Thomas Jones easily had his best day as a New York Jet.
Wide Receivers – B-
Cotchery – 5 receptions, 71 yards
Coles – 1 reception, 27 yards
Coles had a very unusual big drop in the second half and was kept quiet all afternoon aside from one big reception by the Eagles’ secondary. Jerricho Cotchery had a good day and once again, this pair needs a legitimate and consistent number three receiver to help them out.
Tight End – B
Baker – 2 receptions, 12 yards
Again, it wasn’t Baker’s numbers that made him have a good day, but his run blocking helped pave the way for Jones’ 130 yards on the ground.
Offensive Line – C+
Chad Pennington was sacked three times but for the rest of the game the Eagles hardly touched him. The line really stepped up today against a usually tough Eagles run defense by paving the way for Jones.
Defensive Line – D
Kenyon Coleman had his first sack of the season and Dewayne Robertson had half a sack, but the Jets rarely could get to the statue that is Donovan McNabb today and once again the line was a big part of the defenses problem. Oh, and Brian Westbrook had 120 yards on 20 carries as well.
Linebackers – C+
Hello Jonathan Vilma! Vilma had his best day of the season easily (7 tackles), but not numbers wise. There were a few noticeable plays that Vilma made, including one nice pass breakup. Rookie David Harris had a half a sack as well.
Secondary – B
Andre Dyson let up a huge 1st quarter touchdown to Kevin Curtis and that was really the killer on the secondary in this game. You can’t give the secondary too bad of a grade because there was barely any pressure from the front seven and Kerry Rhodes (8 tackles, 1 sack) and Darrelle Revis (9 tackles) had good days. Hank Poteat had an interception as well.
Special Teams – B
Leon Washington is an electric return man. Everyone in Jet Nation is now saying “Justin WHO!!??”. Mike Nugent was 3-of-4 field goal wise and had two touchbacks as well. Benny Graham shanked one punt but the Jets’ coverage units played very well against Philadelphia’s return units.
Coaching – F
Horrible play calling on offense in tight spots and in the red zone. The Jets were able to move the ball down the field but the play calling once they were around the 30 yard line or deeper in Eagle territory did not help.
Stud of the Game: Thomas Jones
Dude of the Game: Chad Pennington (Again)
