Hey all, I’m back for my 2nd season here on JetNation.com with my post game Report Card. Here goes nothing.
Quarterback:Â A
Clemens – 16-22, 174 yards, 3 TD
Some have said that Kellen’s performance in the scrimmage was just a performance in a scrimmage. Guess not. For the second straight Jets “game”, Clemens was efficient and led the Jets to every single one of their scoring drives. As a side note, Chad Pennington did an excellent job taking the snap and handing the ball off to Thomas Jones.
Running Back:Â C
Danny Ware – 12 attempts, 48 yards
L.Washington – 9 attempts, 30 yards
Jones – 8 attempts, 27 yards, TD
Thomas Jones made some nice moves early, Leon was shifty as always and Danny Ware helped make his case for the Jets’ number three back behind both of them. Alvin Banks didn’t touch the ball as much as Ware which leads you to believe that Ware is the favorite. Ware showed an unwillingness to go down.
Wide Reciever:Â C
McCareins – 2 receptions, 49 yards
Wright – 5 receptions, 43 yards
Stuckey – 3 receptions, 20 yards, TD
Chansi Stuckey made a great catch on a fade from Kellen Clemens in the 3rd quarter and Wallace Wright helped his case to hang around as a number five or six receiver as well as a special teams ace. Frisman Jackson, with his only catch, made a circus catch that got a standing ovation from the 5,000 fans or so that were left at that time. Oh, and Juan Wong was there too (as Jetcane would say).
Tight End:Â B
Ryan – 4 receptions, 29 yards, 2 TD
Sean Ryan had the most touchdowns of the day and also was an effective blocker. Chris Baker blocked well in his few series as well.
Defensive Line:Â C
Kenyon Coleman looked good in his first game in the Jets’ 3-4 defense. Dewayne Robertson also showed off some of his offseason strength gains. Personally, I liked what I saw from Bobby Hamilton and hope that he ends up making this team. One problem though, no sacks.
Linebackers:Â B-
The backers applied a lot of pressure it seemed, especially in the final three quarters. David Harris made some nice plays, as did Eric Barton. David Bowens looks like he will be a good fit as a pass rushing 3-4 OLB. Again though, no sacks from this unit either.
Secondary:Â B
Kerry Rhodes got burnt twice in the 1st quarter, but, hey, this is the Preseason and mistakes will be made, even by all-pro’s like Rhodes. Drew Coleman was very impressive and had an interception and could’ve walked away with at least two more. Coleman could push David Barrett to start alongside Andre Dyson opening day.
Special Teams:Â A-
The Nuuuuuge’s kickoffs were deeper than usual (including two touchbacks) and his field goals all had plenty of length. Unfortuantely his 52 yard attempt sailed just wide left, but the leg was there. Leon Washington looks great as a kick returner and his 1st quarter return was electric. Ben Graham made some nice punts and both Nuge and Graham laid some Falcons out!
Coaching Staff:Â B
Did not like at all that Pennington did not throw the ball at all and I wanted to see more of Andre Wadsworth and Brad Smith, personally. Still, a well coached preseason game and was glad they had Kellen in there for the majority of the game.
