Fantasy Baseball

By Mike Dietrich

Welcome back to our weekly fantasy baseball article on www.jetnation.com.  In this space each week we will offer some players that are probably available in your league and could be useful going forward as well as who is hot/not.   All statistics are taken from the last 2 weeks of play.  Here are my favorite pickups for the week;

Josh Johnson-He is coming off the DL on Monday and finished in the top 5 in ERA last year.

Brad Lidge-He may have been dropped in your league and with Wheeler blowing up daily he is a solid closer choice for the rest of the way.

Rich Harden-He maybe the closer as the A’s have said he will be in the bullpen the rest of the way.

Estaban German-He will play everyday for the Royals and can give much needed speed to your fantasy team.

Dustin McGowan-He has been nothing but solid but remember he does pitch for the Jays and has performed against the non-winners in his last few starts.

J.P. Howell-He has been a strikeout machine for the up and coming Devil Rays.

Felix Pie-He now has an everyday job and has started filing up all categories.

Brandon Inge-He is on fire right now but can go cold for a month.

Brandon Harris-He has been mentioned her before and continue to flourish in Tampa.

Yovanni Gallardo-He is up with the Brewers and has an easy start to what will be an awesome career.  He will be better than all the other major names whom have come up this year.

Who’s Hot

The New York Yankees-See 200 million can buy you a .500 team.

Arod .391 4-23-If everyone hates him why does he lead everyone in All Star voting?

Bobby Abreu .440 2-12-It was a matter of time but I would trade him now in fantasy and if I was the Yankees.

Victor Martinez .392 4-12-The best fantasy catcher in the land.

Kelvin Escobar 18K’s 2.40 ERA-When healthy, one of the top 5 pitchers in the A.L.

Carlos Zambrano 2-1 17K’s- As long as Michael Barrett is not catching he is a Cy Young candidate.

Justin Verlander 2-1 17K’s-I have to get the guy who pitched a no hitter on the list.

Who’s Not

Dan Wheeler 15.00 ERA-He lost his closer job, started a fight with Chris Sampson, Good Times in Houston!

Jamie Moyer 6.75-His luck has to run out sooner or later pitching in Philly.

Tim Linecum-9.81 ERA– He may need to get back to AAA.

Jermaine Dye .170-He just cant get it turned around, I can see him ending up with the Mets.

Julio Lugo .140-You mean a speed guy is not working out in Boston..shocking

On the injury front; Aramis Ramirez is now on the DL, Ryan Freel still has concussion syndrome while Moises Alou may never come back

Have a great week and thanks for reading!
