Fantasy Baseball Waiver Pickups and Notes
By Mike Dietrich
Welcome back to our weekly fantasy baseball article on www.jetnation.com. In this space each week we will offer some players that are probably unavailable in your league and could be useful going forward as well as who is hot/not.  Here are my favorite pickups for the week:
Taylor Tankersly-Fla Henry Owens is the current closer but I can see him taking over as he struck out 47 in 41 innings in the major last year,
Felix Pie-CHC- He takes over for Soriano but has the ability to be a 30/30 guy in the future, a good stash on the reserved list candidate.
Ryan Theriot CCH-He is loved by Lou Pinella and could turn into a Ryan Freel type playing everywhere and getting 40 SB’s
Josh Hamiliton Cin-He is now playing everyday with 5 Hr’s. I would ride the hot streak while you can and especially with Ryan Freel playing 3B.
Tom Gorzelanny Pit- He had an awful spring but has been amazing so far this year (2-0 1.33 Era)
Mark Hendrickson LAD-He will fill in for Jason Schmidt but anyone can be effective at Dodger stadium and he is not a bad guy to take a chance on.
John Buck KCR-Â Â He is hitting .440 in limited at bats but would be a great 2nd catcher.
Adam Lind TOR- This is his chance to shine, which he has done at every level. He will hit for power and average.
Who’s Hot
Alex Rodriquez .350 12-30- He must be really making Jeter mad. He should also learn new HR dance.
Ian Kinsler– .320-7-14 He is delivering on last year’s expectations
Carlos Beltran .350-4-17 Baseball’s only player who isn’t overpaid.
Rich Hill 3-0 0.40-I may look to trade high here since we know what happens to all young Cubs pitchers.
Josh Beckett 3-0 1.50 It looks like this is finally paying off for the Sox
C.C Sabathia 3-0 2.14 He must be making Bartolo Colon and Sid Fernandez proud for all hefty pitchers
Who’s Not
Ryan Howard .212 1-7-Maybe he should turn away that 2nd steak once in awhile.
Frank Thomas .203 2-5-The Big Hurt looks slow and done. The Jays are jinxed.
Brandon Inge .111 2-5 Ouch he must not be even hitting his wife’s weight.
Kel Igawa 1-0 6.01-Looks like the Yankees got the wrong guy from Japan
Ervin Santana 1-2 7.35-He is no Julio or even Rafael at this point
Carlos Zambrano 1-2 7.73-Someone has their Free Agent contract on their mind
On the injury front keep Jason Schmidt is out awhile and looked awful this year. Felix Rodriquez should only be out 2-3 starts but a sore elbow is never good. BJ Ryan is gone for a long time as well; Jason Frasor is the man for saves.
Have a great week and thanks for reading!
