JETS HAVE EIGHT PICKS, THREE OF TOP 35 IN 2006 DRAFTThe New York Jets announced today the club has obtained a first round draft pick, the 29th selection overall, in the 2006 NFL Draft from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for defensive end John Abraham. The announcement was made by Jets” General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.
“We are appreciative of the efforts John gave to the Jets over the past six seasons and we wish him well,” Tannenbaum said. “The combination of eight picks in this year”s draft will provide us with greater options and flexibility to improve our team.” Abraham, 27, joined the Jets as a first-round draft choice in 2000 (the second of the team”s four first-rounds picks that season) out of the University of South Carolina. The 6-4, 258-pound native of Timmonsville, SC has played in 73 career regular season games, making 63 starts.
Abraham was designated as the Jets” franchise player on February 21, 2006.
