JETS SIGN DB JEREMY LESUEUR; WAIVE CB DARRIEN JOHNSON
New York City- The New York Jets announced today they have signed defensive back Jeremy LeSueur to the active roster and waived cornerback Darrien Johnson. The announcement was made by Jets Executive Vice President/General Manager Terry Bradway.
LeSueur, 24, was selected by Denver in the third round (85th overall) of the 2004 Draft. He was signed to the Jets practice squad on September 13, after being released by the Broncos on September 3. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve rehabbing a hernia injury. The 6-foot, 204-pound safety attended the University of Michigan, where he recorded 170 tackles, two sacks, 27 pass deflections and three forced fumbles while playing in 50 career games from 1999-03. As a former cornerback at Michigan, he earned second-team All-Big Ten Conference honors his senior year. He also set a single-season record in kick return yards (583) as a junior, while tying a school record with 26 returns that year.
Johnson, a 5-11, 185-pound 2002 product of the University of Iowa, signed a 2005 contract with the Jets on January 11. He saw action in the first three games of the season as a member of the Jets? punt return team. Johnson played for the Canadian Football League?s Montreal Alouettes in 2003 and 2004.
The New York Jets will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Meadowlands Sunday, October 9, 2005. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
