New York City – The New York Jets announced today the signing of free agent offensive tackle Scott Gragg and that second-year offensive tackle Marko Cavka has been placed on injured reserve with a fractured arm. The announcements were made by Jets Executive Vice President and General Manager Terry Bradway.
Gragg, a 6-8, 315-pound native of Silverton, Ore., was a second round draft selection of the New York Giants in 1995 out of the University of Montana. Now entering his tenth NFL season, Gragg is a veteran of 156 regular season games, having made 142 starts. He played his first five seasons (1995-1999) with the Giants before signing as an unrestricted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers (2000-2004). Gragg has played primarily right tackle throughout his career, which has also featured four postseason games played and started.
Cavka, who was injured in the Jets? pre-season finale at Philadelphia on Sept. 1, is a 2004 sixth round draft choice by the Jets out of Sacramento State. The 6-7, 294-pounder was inactive for all of the Jets? 2004 regular season games and both postseason contests last season. Cavka is the fourth player the Jets have placed on injured reserve thus far this season, joining LB Darrell McClover (leg), S Andre Maddox (knee) and rookie LB Mondoe Davis (knee).
Gragg will wear number 75 with the Jets this season and will join the Club as they continue preparations for their season opening game this Sunday, Sept. 11, at Kansas City against the Chiefs. The Jets roster is currently at the NFL maximum of 53 players.
