While to some…ahem…Guns of Bavaria…seeing Jessica Alba in a pair of chaps is enough to make a movie great, Sin City was much more than that. Even with a cast of stars like this, some movies have still failed–that isn’t the case with this Sin City.

Judging from the previews I was expecting a serious movie, but to my surprise there was alot of humor mixed in. Enough that I actually found myself laughing out loud on more than a few occasions.

For those not familiar with the comic book on which this movie is based, myself included, the movie revolves around three different storylines that intertwine.
Bruce Willis plays an old, worn down cop on the verge of retirement. He wants to solve one last case before he hangs it up and it just so happens to involve the Senator’s son who kidnaps, rapes and kills little kids–in that order.

Mickey Rourke plays a rather rough-looking dude by the name of Marv. Because of his looks, he never really had a way with the ladies until he met Goldie, who was well–lets just say–generous with him. Turns out Goldie is murdered and Marv goes on a crusade to find her killer. Along the way, he crosses paths with the creepiest character in the movie played by Elijah Wood. Yes, Elijah Wood–the Hobbit from the Lord of the Rings.

The third storyline involves Clive Owen, who played Arthur in King Arthur, as ‘Dwight’. He gets mixed up with the prostitutes of Basin City in a huge battle against the cops and mob to keep the prostitutes free.

All in all, this is the best movie I’ve seen in quite some time. Tarantino was only a guest director in the movie, but in my opinion, the whole movie had a Tarantino feel to it. If you’re a Pulp Fiction fan, I think you’ll love this movie. Leave the kids at home though as there is a ridiculous amount of blood and violence.

Rating : 5 out 5 Ears of Corn
