Jets Trade For Otah To Help Bolster O-Line
We all know that the Jets were attempting to trade right tackle Wayne Hunter this offseason. When they had no bites on the line, they decided to give him another chance, especially under new offensive line coach Dave Deguglielmo. Well today the Jets decided he needs some competition for the starting position and traded a conditional late round pick to the Carolina Panthers for tackle Jeff Otah (6’6″ 340lbs).
Otah was drafted by the Panthers with the 19th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Otah started 25 games for the Panthers. He missed all of the 2010 season due to a knee injury and only played 4 games in 2011 before another knee injury. He will only cost a little over $1 million against the cap. This is a very positive move to make to start off training camp. It is a low risk, high reward move that can finally put Hunter where most fans feel he belongs…2nd string.
